Helping Our Friends in Delhi
Navigate the
COVID-19 Pandemic

Bulletin from the Solstice Institute Board of Directors
(October 2020)

Dear friends of STOP India and the Solstice Institute:

We hope you and your loved ones are all staying safe in these challenging times.

The work of the Solstice Institute continues through the pandemic and we are doing all we can to support our friends at STOP India in Delhi, as they really need our help right now.

As you know it is at times of crisis, like COVID 19, that the poorest people suffer desperately and find themselves struggling for survival.  As friends of Solstice Institute and STOP India, we have an opportunity to make a big difference with just a small contribution.  A dollar buys 73 rupees right now, close to a historic high, giving us the opportunity to have a real impact, in purely economic terms. Our understanding is that NGOs in India are really hurting as it seems that state level support has been severely restricted, and in some case cut completely.

Many of you are aware that STOP is an extremely high integrity organization, revered by the judiciary, and a source of numerous NGO personnel for India and Nepal, as well as a leader in international UN level efforts. One
STOP has been a part of reducing the risk that children will be available to be sold for sex in brothels in India, both because of their direct work, but also working at a policy level with the judiciary. This continues to be a countrywide effort, with STOP playing a critical leadership role, especially as a lot of the activity is now in the shadows, on the internet.  In addition, their focus is to address the issue at the source, and make it harder for the traffickers to conduct abduct and induct potential victims.  This of course means working in the slum communities and actively weaving the social fabric that didn’t exist before. STOP is also providing anti-trafficking education, and providing real hope and options for better lives.  If this work is not done the boys are likely to become pimps or sex slaves themselves, while the girls are sold into prostitution.
